Most people want help in designing or renovating their home

"We owe our success to our ability to transform a homeowner's wants and wishes into design solutions that are responsive to functional needs as well as aesthetics."

Arlene Tunney, AIA Principal

Shoreline Residence

The homeowner wanted an extensive renovation to make their beach front cottage a spacious family home with handicap accessibility. Tunney Associates succeeded in designing for full accessibility while maintaining the waterfront character of the home.

NEW CONSTRUCTION

Tiny Temple in the Woods

Two temporary landlocked sailors asked us to build a house in the woods "the tinier the better." The only rooms the couple asked for were a "great" room, a sleeping loft, a modest kitchen and a single bathroom. Given the owners were moving from a boat, this space would seem vast and luxurious by comparison. They also requested that natural materials be used as extensively as possible.

Empty Nesters

The "empty-nest" homeowners wanted a simple, sunny and flexible home. Tunney Associates made an architectural translation that met all those needs and added the uniqueness of a dramatic V-shaped design.

Pods

This home was designed for a couple approaching retirement. Nestled on four heavily treed acres, which back up to State Forest land, the house was designed in "pods". The main "pod" 32' x 32' contains the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Master bedroom and bath, with a 16' x 16' Studio Den on the second level. The living - dining areas, separated by a double-sided fireplace, face South for solar exposure, and open onto a bluestone patio. At each end is a 20' x 20' "pod" - one contains two Guest Bedrooms, the other the garage. Each "pod" is connected by a 10' square bridge - one which serves as the main entry, the other contains the Guest Bath. If in the future, if the owner desires expansion, more "pods" can be added to the existing home.
